Dental and medical practice website accessibility checklist
Patients of every age and ability need to find your hours, book an appointment and fill in forms. Practice websites often rely on PDFs and third-party booking tools, which is where barriers appear.
Checklist
- Booking: make sure the booking widget works with a keyboard and screen reader, and offer phone and email as alternatives.
- Patient forms: provide fillable, tagged forms or an accessible web form rather than scanned PDFs. See accessible forms.
- Team photos: name each person in the alt text or caption.
- Service pages: use clear headings (H2 per service) and plain language.
- Contrast: pale blues and greens on white are common in healthcare branding. Check them with our contrast guide.
- Video: captions on any explainer videos.
- Consistent help (WCAG 2.2): phone number and contact link in the same place on every page.
This is general technical guidance, not legal or regulatory advice.
